Mural on walls of the Temple
We are at the complex of the
Temple of the Sun and the Temple of the Moon
Vendor plying his Wares

Plaza in the middle of the Temple Complex
More murals--colors from plants
No living quarters in the Temple Complex--this is a castle on the Outskirts
Drain System
Cactus entry to the Pyramids
This is the food at a neat restaurant we went to
built in the floor of a big cave called the Grotto
This is chicken fajita and dark burrito.
Cost was about $13 American
To get to the eating area, you had to walk down into the bottom
of the cave...very steep. This restaurant is out of the way
beyond the Pyramids
Looking down from the steps into the
Grotto..it was really unique.
These are large openings into a large cave.
Neal and the tables in the background
Jackie standing on the steps descending into
the big cave.
This is one of the classrooms on the Avenue of the Dead
which runs from the Temple of the Sun to the Temple of the Moon
There are classrooms all along on either side the roadway
After the tour of the Pyramids, we went to the living
quarters--this was a castle...many rooms
Murals in the castle.
View from the top of the Temple of the Sun. You
can see the Temple of the Moon down at the end of the
Avenue of the Dead.
The Temple of the Sun
This is the Quetzalcóatl part bird, part serpent with
butterfly wings
Holes in the walls that the LDS guide
thought were used for curtains.
Temple rooms off to the side of
the Pyramid of the Moon
There were small rooms on either side of the
Avenue of the Dead...each originally had murals
depicting gospel themes. People walked along
the Avenue of the Dead and were taught the Gospel along
the way. This is the only preserved mural (originally it
was behind another building which protected it from the elements). It depicts a panther or puma. The circles represent eternity. The original color remains.
This is an atrium in the temple rooms where
we saw pictures of the Quetzel bird.
There were tons of shops lining each of the walkways entering
the complex.
